What was the best game and technology of the past decade?

That’s the nut we’ll crack on Tuesday the 24th of November. The noughties were a decade of evolution, taking what was laid down in basic form in the 90′s and ramping up what we can do and play a thousandfold. So many incredible games and techs have now entered our every day lives, our mission: to fondly reminisce the things that made the biggest impact.

Your expert panelists include:

David Flynn – veteran tech journo and former editor of ACP and Icon
Tim Dean – former editor of PC Authority and Cosmos
Bajo – Good Game host
Jez Ford – Geare editor
Ben Mansill – Byteside bloke and founding editor PC PowerPlay and Atomic
Daniel Wilks – editor of Hyper
Simon Sharwood – veteran tech journo, writes for everyone!

As always, all expertly orchestrated by our host Seamus Byrne.

This is the last Byteside season 1 show of the year, and we’d love to have you join us for this special episode.

When: Tuesday 24th November. 6pm onwards.
Where: Shelbourne Hotel, Altitude Bar, 200 Sussex St (cnr Sussex & Market)
Price: FREE!

We’ve wrapped what was, may we humbly say, a brilliant show. Our pro-gaming panel locked on to, and shredded, the elite gaming culture, while our extreme PC crew overclocked the bejeezes out of the night.

Our superstar overclocker Dinos managed a personal best ever overclock for the crowd, in a fest of liquid nitrogen, and everyone went home with trick ASUS goodies. A very lucky couple of Bytesiders scored high-end ASUS motherboards. We look after you at Byteside.

It’s rich entertainment and full to the brim with traditional Byteside wit, intelligence and insight.

Now, because this was a Wednesday show, where normally we do the Tuesday thing, the video won’t be up until Friday. If you’re on our b-list, we’ll shoot you an email as soon as it’s live, if you’re not on the b-list – get some, and always get the latest Byteside news the moment it happens.

We’ll post details about the end of season Episode 6 very soon, but here’s the free heads-up – we’re doing the decade-spanning ‘Best of the Noughties’, so you know where to look for the best in games and gear, as judged by the elite industry pro’s.

Ep 6 will be on Tuesday November 24th, it’ll be a good one, so RSVP now and you know you’ve got a spot.

That’s not all for Byteside in 2009, we’re laying on a very special Christmas Show on December the 8th. It’s at an ultra-cool new venue and will be the fun place to be for a killer Christmas party. Stay tuned, you’re invited and we’ll post RSVP details for that one soon. Numbers will be limited, so it’s first in, totally there for that one.

Byteside, out.

Over the top performance and how to get it. Overclocking will be a big feature on this show – and we’ve got legendary Aussie overclocker Dinos22 on the panel, AND running an extreme overclocking display.

On the night we’re running a special comp – guess how high Dinos can get his rig, and win cool booty from ASUS!

For those Bytesiders who came along to the night – thanks for being part of the awesome vibe, and taking part in a night that we enjoyed as much as you did.

On the Tech show we’re diving into the dark work of hackers and cyber criminals. The whole show will have a security theme, and we’ll dig deep to find out just who the underworld is, how much they steal and how you can stop them.

We’ve had a very cool late addition for the games show panel – Hyper’s Darren Wells will be joining us to help tear apart the world of gaming communities.

While in the Tech Show, we’re looking ahead to crystal ball the future of Australian broadband, and a bit of a look at its current state. Another wonderful late addition to the panel is famed tech journo Alex Kidman, it’ll be a top show for sure.

See you tonight!

We’ve got a cracker lined up for the next show!

The Games Show will cover the incredible, diverse and often freaky world of gaming communities. From Xbox Live, to the new PSN, and the huge and crazy world of PC gaming – what is a community? What makes them tick, grow and attract people?

Guests include Nino from Sony and Jinx from Xbox for the insider perspective, plus Ausgamers editor Steve Farrelly.

In the Tech Show, we’re looking at pipes. Big fat pipes. Australia’s internet future is clouded with controversy and an amazing technical challenge. We’ve hauled together a panel of leading experts to shed light on what’s a mess of confusion.

It’s all on next Tuesday 13th October – don’t forget to RSVP and we’ll see you there!

The great Sennheiser giveaway

If you haven’t heard the news yet, everybody who came along to this week’s live event scored a nice little set of Sennheiser earphones. The MX 90 VC is a clever little earbud design and they sell for $89.95, so we’re obviously very excited Sennheiser was willing to give every member of the live audience a set to take home and enjoy.

Thanks to all who came along, and if you thought it was a better idea to stay in and wash your hair, think again…

Byteside now live on iTunes

Byteside now has versions available in the iTunes Store, so you can get your fix delivered straight to your iPod as soon the show is online. Actually this feed will often be live sooner than the web-version, what with additional Flash conversion processes delaying the embed codes.

We’ve also split the show up into a few forms so you can consume it in a way that suits your needs.

There’s the full video version of each show, for enjoying in one delicious feast.

There’s our ‘Bits’ version which offers each show in five clips, broken into the main segment groups.

And then there’s our ‘Audio-only’ version. The discussion works pretty well as a traditional audio podcast, so if you’d prefer to listen while on the move, now you can. No doubt there’ll be some visual references, but you can always dive back into the website to pick up on those moments when you need to.

All the links are available in the main site sidebar, or a search in iTunes for ‘Byteside’ will quickly make everything apparent. But here they all are once more to make things easy:

Tech show: Full show, Segment Clipped, Audio-only

Games show: Full show, Segment Clipped, Audio-only

Arriving this week

Here’s a few insights into what you’ll find appearing on Byteside this week. First, the RSVP list for our second live event will rear its head very, very soon, so keep your eyes peeled if you want to be there — that show is next Tuesday, 29 September. We also have segment clipped versions of the show coming online so if you don’t have the time to watch it all in one swoop you can catch each show one section at a time. And then there are the ‘highlight reels’, which will give you a taste of some of the best quotes and guest comments from each show.

All that and more, more, more.
